Wedge play
Beginner vs Advanced Approaches to Wedge Play
Move from one basic pitch to a full scoring toolbox.

Beginners: one reliable motion
Newer golfers should start with a simple pitch: narrow stance, weight slightly forward, quiet wrists, and a chest-driven motion. Learn one club and one carry number before trying flops, spinners, and three-hop checkers.
Advanced players: more flights, not more drama
Skilled wedge players can hit the same yardage with different clubs and windows. A 60-yard shot might be a low gap wedge, a standard sand wedge, or a higher lob wedge depending on pin, wind, and green firmness.
| Level | Wedge priority | Practice target |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Clean contact | Land on the green |
| Improving | Carry distances | 10-yard windows |
| Advanced | Trajectory and spin | Best putting zone |
The shared skill
Everyone needs commitment through impact. A wedge swing that slows down because the target looks delicate is almost never delicate at contact.
