How to Care for Wedges
Clean grooves, dry faces, and honest wear checks keep wedges useful longer.
Grooves need attention
Wedges spend their lives in sand, damp rough, and partial-swing practice. Packed grooves reduce control, and a wet face can change how the ball launches and spins.
Care list
- Brush grooves during and after the round.
- Dry the face before putting the club away.
- Wash grips when touch starts to feel slippery.
- Inspect the strike area for smooth or shiny wear.
- Avoid using the wedge as a range rake or bag stand.
Short-game truth: You cannot buy spin and then leave mud where the face meets the ball.
Know when cleaning is not enough
If a wedge still launches fine but no longer checks from clean lies, the face may be worn. Care preserves performance; it cannot rebuild missing groove life.
