Where the swing starts leaking

Takeaway faults are sneaky because the ball has not moved yet. A player rolls the forearms open, yanks the handle inside, or lifts the club with the hands, then spends the rest of the swing trying to square the face. The miss might show up as a pull, block, thin strike, or weak cut, but the trouble began long before impact.

Early move What it tends to cause Better feel
Club whipped inside Stuck downswing, blocks, hooks Chest turns the handle back
Hands lift straight up Steep shaft, glancing contact Club brushes the grass longer
Face rolls open Late flip to square it Glove logo stays quieter
Body freezes All arms, no width Shirt buttons turn with the club

Fix one piece at a time

Use a mid-iron and make waist-high backswings. Pause when the shaft is parallel to the ground. If the clubhead is hidden behind your trail hip, exaggerate it a touch more outside. If the face is wide open, feel the knuckles stay down longer.

The best fix is usually small. A takeaway that is two inches better can make the whole swing feel less frantic.
