How to Compare Putters
A practical way to compare putter shapes, weights, inserts, and alignment aids.

Compare one variable at a time
If you test six putters in six different lengths, grips, and head styles, you will only learn which one made the last putt. Narrow the field. Try similar lengths first, then compare blade versus mallet, heavier versus lighter, firm face versus soft insert.
| Feature | What to notice |
|---|---|
| Head shape | Aim confidence and forgiveness |
| Toe hang | Match to face rotation |
| Weight | Tempo on long putts |
| Insert | Sound, feel, and speed control |
Use real putts
Hit 4-footers, 20-footers, and 40-footers. A putter that feels wonderful from six feet but leaves every lag short is not finished auditioning.
Trust patterns
One holed bomb proves nothing. Repeated solid starts and predictable distance tell you much more.
