Presidents Cup
How Qualification and Competition Work in Presidents Cup
How players make the teams, how sessions work, and why captains matter so much.

Qualification sets the roster
Players typically qualify through points lists, rankings, or captain’s picks, depending on the team and cycle. The automatic spots reward form; the picks allow captains to add fit, experience, or chemistry.
Formats change the skill test
Four-ball rewards birdie-making. Foursomes, or alternate shot, rewards patience, driving accuracy, and emotional control because partners share one ball. Singles asks every player to stand alone.
Captain choices
Pairings are not fantasy golf. Captains weigh personalities, ball flights, putting nerves, rest, and course fit. The best pairing on paper can still struggle if the rhythm feels wrong.
