Home golf practice
Making Home Golf Practice More Like Real Golf
Use random practice, changing targets, routines, and consequences so home work transfers to the course.

Random beats comfortable
Real golf almost never gives you the same shot twice in a row. Home practice should eventually reflect that. After a technique block, change the task every rep: different putting distance, different start line, different rehearsal cue, different imagined hole.
Comfortable repetition builds familiarity. Random practice builds readiness.
Use a full routine
Even indoors, go through the same routine you want on the course: pick a target, rehearse once, step in, look, swing or stroke. This keeps home practice from becoming a series of disconnected movements.
Coach’s tip: If you wouldn’t take three practice swings on the course, don’t make that your default at home.
Add consequences
Consequences create attention. Try these:
- Make five straight three-footers or start over.
- Hit six of ten net swings with a balanced finish.
- Roll one putt after light exercise to simulate a raised heart rate.
- End with a one-ball challenge and record the result.
Imagine real holes
Pick a hole you know and play it in miniature. Rehearse the tee shot, then a wedge feel, then a putt. You may not see the full ball flight, but you can train decision-making, routine, and commitment.
Quick recap
Home practice transfers when it includes variety, routine, consequences, and imagination. Make the room feel a little more like the course.
