How to Care for Golf Equipment
Clean, store, and inspect your gear so it performs the way it should.
Clean grooves are performance
Mud in iron and wedge grooves reduces spin and control. After a shot from wet fairway or rough, wipe the face before the next swing. At home, use warm water, a soft brush, and a towel. You need consistency, not harsh chemicals.
Store clubs like tools
Leaving clubs in a hot trunk or damp garage can damage grips, ferrules, and bag materials. Dry them after wet rounds. Let the bag air out. Keep headcovers on woods and putter during travel.
Inspect what wears
- Grips: slick, shiny, cracked, or hard grips should be replaced.
- Wedges: worn grooves reduce stopping power.
- Shafts: check for dents, rust, or loose heads.
- Shoes: worn spikes cost stability.
- Glove: stretched leather changes grip pressure.
Five-minute post-round routine
Wipe clubs, empty trash, dry towel and glove, note anything broken, and restock balls and tees. Small habits keep your gear ready for the next first tee.
